My name is Laura Michelle McDonald. I’m a recent graduate from Circle In The Square Theatre School’s Conservatory, 2023. I was born in the city where the heart of my first love resides, in Manhattan, NY (I think God knew what He was doing with that one). My roots are in New York, but New Jersey raised me.
As a child, I was acting before I understood what it was. If we were playing “house” I took my role of mother seriously. I channeled in what I saw not just from my mother, but from mothers around me. I would observe the way people moved and talked, and would improvise monologues in the mirror for fun, mimicking life stories as if they were my own. I had no idea that what brought enjoyment to me at 5 would soon be the journey of my life.
Once I grasped what acting was and that it could be a career, it has been my pursuit in life ever since. I knew acting was what I wanted for me. But it wasn’t until I was in my church’s Christmas play in 2014 that I knew that it was what God destined for me. My father had preached a sermon, that God impregnates us all with a gift, and one day we will give birth to it. A few weeks later on opening night in the midst of performing, I gave birth to my gift. God confirmed to me that what I’ve been longing for since I was young will come to pass as long as I stay the course.
From that night on, I’ve been staying the course. Being involved in theatre as well as film and receiving training. I played Ismene in Antigone at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Most recently I was Phoebe in As You Like It, directed by Mark Barford. I had the pleasure of working with Times Square Church for both their Easter and Christmas films, Silent Night: Christmas and Three Days Later, directed by David Ham. After graduating from Circle, I also worked with writer and director, Zion Walker, on her short film, Before I Go.
With the world at my fingertips, I am eager to continue doing the work. Auditioning, performing in new and old pieces, workshops, and taking classes when I can. I am also currently seeking representation. I’m ready to do the work and excited to see where God takes me.
